What kind of game is Horizon?
Horizon is a turn-based space strategy game set in the not
too distant future where humans have just begun exploring outer space.
As humanity comes into contact with other life forms and
civilizations decisions will have to be made that will affect the rise and
future of humanity.
The player will manage first-contact situations,
exploration missions, new outposts, technological advancement, trade and
diplomacy and the use of military force among other things.
What are some of the features that make Horizon special?
. Total open space, your ships can travel anywhere between
stars and inside solar systems
. Full tactical combat across the galaxy, epic battles are
possible between all races at the same time, reinforcements can arrive while
battles are ongoing with no artificial limits on how long battles can last.
. In depth ship design which let’s you choose weapons,
emplacements and specials on different hull sizes.
. Unique races, techs, weapons and ships based on each
race’s culture and civilization.
. Smart diplomacy, coordinated actions between races like
you’ve never seen before
. Intelligent AI without cheating, that adjusts to the
player actions as the game develops
What inspired the design of Horizon
Many sci-fi shows and games have inspired the making of
Horizon. But in short Babylon 5, Star Trek DS9 along with Star Control 2 and
Master of Orion 1 and 2 had the greatest impact in the design and decision to
make an epic sci-fi game that captured some of the best elements from these
productions.
When will the game be released?
As soon as we feel it’s ready we will happily announce it.
Being a small independent developer and our
desire to release a game of certain quality, we are not cutting features that
otherwise would have allowed us to announce and meet typical industry deadlines.
Will Horizon have a multiplayer mode?
Not in this version. Due to our limited resources as well
as
design choices favoring a single player experience, it would not have been
possible to make a traditional multiplayer mode without putting severe limits on many
features such as advanced tactical combat and ancient powerful alien races.
We believe most players will really appreciate the depth of
the single-player game experience and it will more than make up for the lack of a
multiplayer mode in this version of Horizon.
What are the hardware requirements?
A PC system purchased in the past 5 years capable of
adequately running win98/2000/XP.
Technically speaking a video card supporting the latest
Microsoft DirectX, at least 256 megs of RAM and a Pentium/AMD 1ghz+ for
acceptable gameplay speed. (Lower system specs may work albeit combat speed will
suffer and is not recommended).
Will the game be available to be purchased online?
Yes. We are planning to have it available for online direct
downloading for those who prefer that method of purchasing. For a minimal
shipping and handling fee the boxed version will also be sent by mail to those
who purchase it online.
What about CD-Copy protection?
None. We believe consumers should be able to make backup
copies freely if they so wish. We also think most people will
legally purchase games they want to play and support.
